More than 400 box jellyfish were also found at Yokohama Beach. Box jellyfish were also spotted at Ala Moana and Waikíkí beaches.

After consulting with the Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services Division the City's Parks and Recreation Department has decided to close Hanauma Bay due to a high number of box jellyfish spotted on the beach and in the near shore waters Sunday morning.

"We would like to apologize to the public for the inconvenience but due to the potential risk to public safety the City’s Parks and Recreation Department along with the Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services Division made the decision to close the bay effective at 7:30 a.m.," Emergency Services Department Bryan Cheplic said.
