Cuba to arrange 2013 Underwater Photography World Championships
Cuba will host the 2013 Underwater Photography World Championship, which will contribute to promote the potential of the island as a nautical destination, the Cuban News Agency reports.
The event, ruled by the World Underwater Federation, forecasted the presence of teams from 50 countries, out of the 152 that make up this federation, an average figure in most games of this kind, reported in the capital Deborah Andollo, president of the Cuban Underwater Federation and former diving world record holder.
Andollo also announced that from February 15th through the 20th, the 2010 Colony Fotosub, the second such event in consecutive years, will be held, under the sponsorship pf the the Cuban Ministry of Tourism and Marlin Marinas company, with the attendance of 36 representatives from seven nations .
Currently, Cuba has 15 International Diving Centers and 674 dive sites, scattered through Santiago de Cuba, Jardines de la Reina, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, Cayo Largo del Sur, Havana, Varadero, Santa LucÃa, Guardalavaca and Jardines del Rey.
The latter is one of the largest coral reef in the country, which extends over 450 kilometers and is considered the second largest in the world after the one in Australia.
