Diving Equipement Shows in NE ?

ScubaBoard Forums - 6 January, 2009 - 23:37
I am a new diver and interested in going to a exhibit/show this year to purchase new equipment. I live in CT and heard there were some shows in the tri-state area or mass. Can anyone inform if the scubaboard lists these sites or if you know of any in this area and when?
Thanks
J:)

Iraq Care Packages?

ScubaBoard Forums - 6 January, 2009 - 23:22
A good friend of mine is shipping off to Iraq for a year, and I'd like to get an idea of what I can send to him.

I've asked Senor Google, and he has a lot of good suggestions, but most seem tailored to troops who are out on the front lines. My bud is an officer and as far as I can tell he's going to be stationed full-time at Camp Victory in the green zone. So I don't know if stuff like foot powder and moleskin is going to be quite as useful for him (though if there's a general shortage of stuff like that maybe he can give them away to those who need it)? Similarly, I now know the base has stuff like movies, coffee, cafeteria food etc. (and here I thought everyone just got MREs all day and night), but I have no idea what kind of quantities/variety are involved (e.g., would general stuff like instant or fresh ground coffee, cookies, etc. be usable or just redundant)?

So anyways, I know there are a lot of military peeps here so I thought I'd ask if anyone had suggestions on what kind of amenities would make life easier on-base (and also, suggestions on what NOT to send - I know he likes durian of all things, but I gotta think about the other troops too).

Thanks!

How would you handle a free flowing reg?

ScubaBoard Forums - 6 January, 2009 - 23:10
I have been chatting with someone about how to handle a free flowing reg.

Please state the following before your answer:
Years certified:
Certifications held:
Agency:
Number of dives:
And if you are an instruc or DM how long have you been one:

Situation 1: A buddy team of 2 divers begin a dive. A minute or so into the dive one diver has a free flow. After several attempts to stop it, the reg continues to free flow. Divers are about 15' deep. It is a one tank dive and each diver only has one tank. It will be the only dive of the day. How should each member of the buddy team respond to this situation? Please outline a step by step response for each member

Situation 2: A buddy team of two divers are on a dive and 30 minutes into the dive at 55' one diver begins to have a free flow and after several attemps it will not stop. Both divers have 800 psi. It is a one tank dive and each diver only has one tank. It will be the only dive of the day. How should each member of the buddy team respond to this situation? Please outline a step by step response for each member.

Next:
What skills should one have or practice that would help a diver to be able to follow the outline you have listed above?

:depressed: Help with a Sea Doo Scooter

ScubaBoard Forums - 6 January, 2009 - 22:25
Hello!

I am new to Scubaboard but have a problem. I have a seadoo scooter which keeps cutting out. I read the good ol manual which comes with the scooter, it doesn't help. It tells me that the scooter does this because it has a safety switch which automatically shuts off the scooter if it hits something or something is stuck in the motor to prevent further issues. It says to wait and it should automatically restart with no other problems. There is nothing physically wrong with the scooter not that I can see but the scooter will run then turn off within 20 seconds, I have turned the scooter off as well as removed the battery for some time, recharged it and put it back in still the same issue.
Does any one have any suggestions on how to rectify this scooter problem or have come across this issues before? Or maybe at least point me in the right direction...

My mistake in buying online

ScubaBoard Forums - 6 January, 2009 - 22:15
So, after reading a lot of threads and reviews and having experienced Sherwood regulators in my OW class, certification dives, on a charter boat in Cozumel, and then renting a few times, I bought a Sherwood regulator package off of LeisurePro. The price was good and I had some post-holiday money to spend.

The package arrived today and I realized what an idiot I am. :shakehead: I don't have the tools to assemble the octo and the SPG into the first stage. Is this something I should take it to an LDS for? I don't see them being thrilled to service my regs since I obviously bought it online, even if they can charge me for the service.

Advice? Thanks
