The provincial government has proposed regulating or requiring scuba dive shops and establishments in the tourist areas to accredit with the provincial government.

The issue at hand seem to be that while dive shops in the area including those in Anda, Cabilao island, Loon and mostly in Panglao island, may be affiliated with one or several of the big international dive training agencies they have not been accredited with the provincial government.

In an response to Bohol Standard member of the provincial board Godofreda Tirol underscored the need for regulatory measure for the dive shops for environmental protection and conservation and for monitoring purposes. She noted that a lot of underwater destruction has not been monitored or reported.

The committee also is expected to scrutinize the transient dive tours coming from nearby island provinces such as Cebu. A lot of these visitors been coming here for dive purposes but they remained unregulated to the detriment of the local government.
