Global Diving Conference to take place at Kiel University, Germany
The Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Germany, is proud to host the first global diving conference November 12-13, 2011. The initiator of this conference is the international diving association Global Underwater Explorers (GUE).

Kiel scientific divers regularly explore the caves of Mexico (Cenotes) in search of relicts of old cultures.

During the two days diving experts, scientists and educators from all over the world will present themselves to an interested audience in the capital of Germany’s most Northern Province in order to share their knowledge and to answer participants’ questions during panel discussions.
On the agenda are topics such as environmental conservation, diving technology, new insights in diving medicine as well as scientific diving, underwater archaeology and new concepts in diving practices.
GUE’s president Jarrod Jablonski, a world renowned cave diver, will be opening the conference. Afterwards Pierre-Yves Cousteau, the youngest son of explorer and diving legend Jacques Cousteau, introduces the newly founded Cousteau Divers organization for the protection of the world’s oceans. Another highlight of the conference will be the New Zealand diving physician Dr. Simon Mitchell: he is well known for his entertaining and understandable presentations of complex subjects. Together with his Norwegian colleague Dr. Alf Brubback, author of the book Bennett and Elliott’s Physiology and Medicine of Diving, and Dr. JP Imbert, an active decompression researcher, they will illustrate decompression related subjects and the latest findings in this area during their presentations.
Professor Martin Visbek, deputy director of the Leibniz-Institute for Marine Sciences (IFM-GEOMAR), will introduce the cluster of excellence “The Future Ocean.” While Florian Huber, head of the working group for maritime and limnic archaeology (AMLA), will take the audience on dives into the past and present current projects. Certainly longed for by divers from the neighbouring Baltic Sea will be the exciting stories and discoveries of Swedish GUE Instructor and wreck diving expert Richard Lundgren, who recently discovered a wreck off the coast of Gotland, which is likely to be a ship from the Danish King Valdemar Atterdag of the 14th century.
In addition to these and many other speakers from around the world, participants from all over Europe as well as overseas are expected. The conference will include a wide range of social programs such as guided excursions to the old Viking settlement Haithabu, a visit to IFM-GEOMAR, local wreck dives, as well as Project Baseline workshops.
This conference, one of the major diving events of 2011 in Germany, is aimed specifically at all interested in diving, regardless of their associations and special interests
