Larry McKenna | Save Our Leatherbacks (S.O.L.O.)

Internationally acclaimed marine life artist, Nancy Blauers (www.blauersart.com) presented this stunning oil painting to Dr. Larry McKenna, Founding Director, to assist the Save our Leatherbacks Non Profit Foundation (S.O.L.O.) in its efforts to raise funds to continue its environmental conservation efforts.

Blauers’ museum quality oil painting (27 x 44 inches, framed) will be available to collectors and S.O.L.O. supporters for a cash donation to help further the Foundations’ environmental and conservation activities to save the Leatherbacks from extinction. Her painting will be introduced at DEMA, 2010 in Las Vegas, November 18 to 21 (if it is not sold by then).

Blauers’ painting depicts a female leatherback turtle exiting the Pacific Ocean at “Leatherback Beach” where it was hatched, in remote Papua, Indonesia, to lay a clutch of eggs. “Nancy’s attention to exact detail of both the Leatherback and the beach scene is amazing”, said Dr. McKenna on receiving her gift.

“Her painting of the Leatherback is clear in every aspect. This is by far the best artist depiction of both the Leatherback Turtle and the remote beach from which this giant turtle travels to the American West Coast to forage on jelly fish.

Nancy and husband, Greg have their private studio on a six acre plot in the “jungles” of central Florida where deer, land turtles and many species of animals roam freely. About 20 years ago, Nancy made a career decision to further her art instincts over that of biology. Her background in biology enables her to create realistic renditions of marine life so accurate that they could almost swim off the canvas.

Her talent has thrilled thousands who frequent Jimmy Buffett’s “Margaritaville” restaurants and stores where they can purchase her art. Nancy was selected to paint the Manatee shown on Florida license plates. This plate is #6 in popularity by Florida residents. Her current art is displayed at the James Coleman Signature Gallery in St. Augustine, Fl. next to the historic Casa Monica Hotel.

Nancy is developing a series of children’s’ books featuring funny frogs who are shown as pirates. These should be an instant hit with kids.

Her gift painting to S.O.L.O. was framed by David Stillings; aka to Floridians as the “Lightning Stalker”. (www.stormyweathergallery.com). David runs around looking for lightning bolts as his medium.

“S.O.L.O. is honored to accept Nancy’s’ painting to join the donated paintings of Wyland, Hiller and Rogest. Her talent is truly a Special Gift from God.” McKenna commented.
This original oil may be acquired for a donation of USD$5,400. Glicee prints in full and in half size will soon be available by special order. Prices are not yet set.
