Just thought I'd say hey! I also can't seem to figure out how to make the little "make a post already" banner go away:wavey:. I hope this does it. I'm new to diving, but really enjoy it. I like looking for treasure above and below the water. I have had some luck in the nearby Potomac river and hope to give Venice Fl a shot this winter while I'm down there. This is a great site and I've already picked up many tidbits of VERY useful information. I hope to see ya out there!

Can anyone recommend a hotel in phuket for an overnight stay? Something in the 2000 baht range? Preferably near to town and stuff to do. Doesn't need to be on the beach as I am just transiting to a liveaboard.

Two of our DM friends, my wife/dive buddy and I were diving from a resort's Boston Whaler. Because the boat is small, they wanted us to send our gear over the side, and then don it in the water. Everything went fine on the earlier dives. After I rolled my gear over the side, my wife said, we have a problem, your gear sank.

The water was only 25' deep, so it was no problem to recover it. I free dove to the gear, inflated the BC and rode it back to the surface. I had inflated the BC before sending it over the side, so I couldn't figure out how it sunk. My wife said, she thought it was under inflated so she hit the inflator. Which button, I asked? Turns out she hit the dump button.

Here is the issue, I have a Sherwood Gemini Breathable Inflator, she uses a standard power inflator and separate octo. On the breathable inflator, the regulator purge is on the end/bottom of the assembly, so the dump and fill buttons are both on the side of the assembly. The fill button is black and round, the dump is yellow and triangular-ish. On her inflator, the dump is on the end and only the fill is on the side. She just did what was normal for her and hit the big yellow button. Bye bye gear...

I have had the gear for a year. We have about 60 dives together with the gear. We pre-dive briefed its differences for several dives when it was new, but, stopped doing that after a while. I guess we figured we both had it down pat.

After I was sure there was no real problem with the gear, we finished an excellent dive. It was after I was back on the boat, it dawned on me... Gad, what if I had been in the BC... unresponsive... in deep water? It was an eye opening, but thankfully cheap lesson for me. I dive my gear, I know it. My wife dives next to my gear, she forgot. What about a pickup buddy on a cattle boat, which has exactly one pre-dive equipment brief? Was he paying attention?

She still gets ribbed about just calling a dive, rather than sinking the gear to get out of the dive. Not by me though, I have to sleep sometime. ;)

Hello all,

Rita, myself, and a few other folks are planning to scrape the frost off the water for a sunny day of diving tomorrow at ABWA. Show time is 0900hrs at the Camp which will be parked hopefully toward the roadside of the parking lot.

TonightÃÔ weather is going to be in the 20ÃÔ, but donÃÕ let that scare ya off. Pack your 7mills, hoods, and gloves and come on down. Tomorrow highÃÔ will be in the 50ÃÔ with little to no chance of rain. IÃÍl have the trailer with the pop up and heater going, along with some hot coco to warm the timbers. Dress warmly for the wind however.

IÃ×e ordered a tarp to use for some walls to keep the heat in; however I donÃÕ anticipate it being here today. If needed, IÃÍl use the tarps I have to make a wind break to trap a lil heat in. Rita and I always cooks a small lunch, so if youÃÓe coming, drop me an e-mail or give me a call so we can plan accordingly.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Air Compressors
Units: About 1,000
Manufacturer: BrownieÃÔ Third Lung, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Hazard: The air compressorÃÔ components can fail, which could cause a stoppage of air flow. This poses a risk of drowning to users.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: The recalled air compressors are used to provide air to divers. The recalled products include the following models:

The serial number is printed on a metallic plate located on the compressor's base and on the storage case.
Sold at: Brownie's Third Lung factory and various marine/diving products resellers nationwide from July 2007 through August 2008 for between $2000 and $3500.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the air compressor and contact their dealer for a free inspection and repair, if necessary. Consumers are being directly notified of this recall.

Just saw a vid on MSN this morning of an underwater scooter type of vehicle called the Bob. Battery powered, self contained with tank and helmet. Very intereseting idea, but as the passenger is surrounded and protected by the structure of the vehicle I can see how this could end up causing an awful lot of damage to a reef or any bottom structure. I was both impressed by the creation and scared when I envisioned the damages such a vehicle could cause if handled by amatures. It's anticipated price shown in the video seems like it will certainly be well within the range of a lot of hobyists and gadget freaks. Anyone familiar with this machine and it's intended market?

Thinking about going out on sunday. Has anyone been diving recently in the cape ann area? If so, what was the temp at depth? thanks!

After many hours of sawing at the edges of my markers with various sharp objects, and obviously having an idle mind, I began thinking of alternate methods of personalizing them that weren't quite so hard on the kitchen implements.

So I gave one to the dog to see if she would chew it nicely. (This may have been after a beer.) She gave it a halfhearted chew, spit it out, and informed me in the subtle way that dogs have that I should do it myself and get her a proper chew toy.

The one day, hanging out in the dive shop, I said "Hey! Maybe I should glue rhinestones to the markers! You could feel them by touch, and they would be sparkly!". This was actually meant as a joke. However, the instructors thought this was a FABULOUS idea. "Yeah! Pimp my markers!". The experiment has not, to date, been executed. But it might be....
